The largest living tree mammal – the Orangutan – is found in the tropical rainforests of South-east Asia. Translating to ‘people of the forest,’ Orangutan’s spend most of their time traversing the treetops where they mainly consume fruits, making them vital in the seed dispersal of over 300 plants! Scientific study shows that these highly intelligent beings exhibit an ability for self-awareness and mutually beneficial collaboration with others. As well as using make-shift tools to build their nest amongst the tree canopy to sleep every night. They have even evolved to have both opposable thumbs and opposable big toes to improve their dexterity whilst they swing through the treetops! These amazing animals are known for being quite solitary, but when they assemble in groups they are known as a buffoonery. Sadly, all three Orangutan species are critically endangered, with main conservation efforts focusing on creating a protected area of rainforest free from outside hazards.

Children can learn about the animal kingdom by swinging from one playtime to the next in Pretend to Bee’s Orangutan themed zip-up top. The fiery auburn colouring of the soft faux fur will have kids ready to explore the pretend rainforest, and the detailed hood makes this costume something kids can really go wild for!

Next let us learn about an animal species which can be tracked back to the prehistoric dinosaurs like the Steneosaurus – Crocodiles! Some Crocodile fossils have been dated back over 200 million years, so it’s no wonder that this semi-aquatic reptile has appeared in ancient Egyptian mythology as Sobek the crocodile headed God, representing protection and power. Like many reptiles, crocodiles hatch from an egg, but they have their own unique features which truly make these animals amazing. For example, a crocodile’s eyes, ears and nostrils can all be found on top of its head, allowing them to be almost fully submerged in the river without being visible. Plus, they can replace each of their teeth up to 50 times! Alongside a crocodile’s ability to rapidly learn the behaviour patterns of other animals, these characteristics help crocodile be extraordinary hunters.

Little ones can learn all about this semi-aquatic reptile whilst playing in our Crocodile themed cape. The embossed faux scales and the detailed crocodile hood create the perfect costume to embody this remarkable reptile. Kids will be snapping at the chance to wear this crocodile fancy dress!

Finally, let our mind travel to the grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa where we can catch a glimpse of the majestic Giraffe. These gentle giants can run up to 35mph and are the tallest living terrestrial animal, reaching record hights of 19ft, so it is unsurprising that a group of giraffes is called a tower! Spending most of their day eating these herbivores consume new shoots and leaves as their main source of nutrients and water. When they aren’t eating or galloping across the grassland, giraffes are sleeping. Needing a minimum of 30 minutes of sleeping a day in the wild these charming mammals can nap standing up to remain alert, but when they feel safe from perils they sleep an average of 4.6 hours. Giraffe’s can not only be found on land but also in the night sky above as the Camelopardalis star constellation. This is the largest star constellation and can be seen in the northern hemisphere and really lets the majesty of these amazing animals shine.

In Pretend to Bee’s Giraffe themed zip-up top kids can gallop around having tons of fun. The spotted giraffe pattern and the detail put into the fur horns and soft main of the giraffe hood truly helps embody these calm and magnificent beings. Also available in sizes 6-18 months is the most adorable baby giraffe onesie! With the safety zip guard and the integrated sole grip booties, these giraffe outfits will bring the safari right to your little one’s playtime!
